Music and singing

Working translation. Synchronized with the Russian corpus as of 2026-10-25. Canonical formulas are binding only in the Russian original; publication — after human review.

Why the church has songs

A text convinces the mind; a song is carried by the body: a refrain sung by the circle is recalled when words are not recalled. Singing gathers a group with a common rhythm — this is legitimate liturgy, working the same way in all traditions. We do not set a magic task before songs: a song is a form of memory, not an incantation.

The boundaries (from "The hand of the doctor"):

  1. The state created by singing is not used for decisions: important decisions — the next day and later.
  2. Songs do not frighten and do not promise paradise: our genre — is warning and memory.
  3. All texts — from canonical formulas. A new song is checked against the canon, like a quote.

The rules of our songs

  1. A refrain from the canon. The chorus — a ready canonical formula, without changes.
  2. Up to 60 seconds. A song must fit into a story and into memory.
  3. Three-four steps. Everyone must sing: whoever cannot sing — that one is our audience.
  4. Translatability. The refrain is translated into any language without loss of meaning: canonical images — are international.
  5. Quiet strength. No marching drums: our songs are sung, not chanted.

The repertoire: four songs

Song 1. "The Oak Remembers" (the Quiet Evening, the minute before the silence)

The refrain:

The oak remembers. The book remembers. The child remembers. You will hear it all — from inside, from inside.

The verse:

Plant, write, embrace, teach — your influence is longer than your road.

Song 2. "Set It Right While You Live" (the Evening of Unity, before the circle)

The refrain:

Set it right while you live — and your passage will be lighter. Set it right today — while what can be set right is alive.

The verse:

I do not ask forgiveness — I do: a call, a letter, a debt returned. The past cannot be erased — but the sign can be changed: the healed lives as recovery.

Song 3. "A Door Without a Corridor" (the sending-off, after the Word of the Speaker)

The refrain:

To die is not painful and not long. Long — is to live un-lived. A door without a corridor. Go.

The verse:

You will hear everything we said — from inside us, to the last circle. We do not let you go — we thank you and return you to yourself.

Song 4. "The Warning" (for the digital format, the most viral)

The refrain:

We do not promise paradise — we warn everyone. Faith does not save — what saves is what you do with the warning.

The verse:

Gravity does not ask whether you believe. So with this. Set it right while you live.

The melodies

Melodies are not canonized: the text is canonical, the melody — is local. The same song may be sung to different tunes in different communities — this is a sign of living singing, not a defect. A community writes its own tune for the refrain and sings it until it becomes its own. Recordings are put into the common archive: the new generation takes the tune that survived.

How to introduce singing into gatherings

The rule of state. A song gathers a common feeling — therefore after singing no mysteries are performed and no decisions are made (the Covenant, dedication, voting): important steps — in a calm state, a day later and more (The hand of the doctor). At the Evening of Unity the song before the circle — is part of the entry into the circle, not its cause: whoever came out of the circle "because he sang," came out not by his own word.

Learning — is not a lesson but repetition: we sing the same every evening until all begin to sing. We do not learn by notes: whoever misses — will hit it in a month.

What is next

  1. Record five songs in the simplest form (voice + guitar / without accompaniment).
  2. Put them into the archive with the texts and the right of free performance.
  3. In a year, review: which songs are sung without prompting — those live; which do not — replace, do not regret.
